Our History

 

In 1975, our company began by designing electrical engineering work under the name “Control Solutions” and grew quickly to a staff of over 500 with 17 offices nationwide. Due to the outstanding success, not long after its inception, the original company was sold to Schneider Electric.

 

After Control Solutions was sold, the core members of the previous team, alongside some fresh talent, developed a new perspective for delivering energy services projects to clients. Their mission was to approach complex facility improvement projects from the customers perspective with the key objectives of keeping pricing transparent and utilizing existing partnerships to deliver the best-value for their clients.

 

And from that, Plug Smart was formed in 2008.

 

Shortly after, the customer-focused approach began to take hold of the market. Our team quickly saw that there was a need in the industry for a financially straightforward company. We are adept at creating self-funding opportunities for our clients and providing them with unparalleled insights into pricing and ROI before, during and after project implementation. Our business model has become a much-appreciated hallmark of our client relationships.

Plug Smart was acquired by Ameresco, Inc. in 2021.

Ameresco acquired Plug Smart in 2021, expanding its existing pipeline and solution offerings in the smart buildings sector. Plug Smart’s proven experience in building controls and smart building solutions compliments Ameresco’s approach to customizing energy solutions to best-fit our customer’s needs.

The Plug Smart team joined Ameresco’s team of 1,000+ employees and benefits from the ability to conduct projects across a broad solution portfolio, leveraging Ameresco’s capabilities in street lighting, solar PV arrays, battery energy storage systems, microgrids and more.
