Plug Smart and Athens City School District Work to Eliminate Energy Costs

Our team here at Plug Smart is working with Athens City School District to retrofit their building, formerly known as Chauncey Elementary. Going forward this building will be an office space with the Early Learning Center and no longer will be used as an elementary school. The building had high energy costs attributed to their current lighting fixtures.

Our project includes replacement of the current lighting system, which accounts for 25 percent of the building’s current energy use, and switches all 535 lighting fixtures to LED. By implementing this change, the utility spend will decrease by 19.5%. In addition, the energy bill reduction for the project was about $10,000, annually. Had none of these changes been made, Athens City School District would have spent an estimated additional $146,000 over a 15-year period on their utility costs alone.
